I started the B12 3 weeks ago. I take 1000 mcg daily at night, around 9pm. I noticed my anxiety has increased after the first week or so. I’d like to know if other patients have experienced increased anxiety during the protocol? Is this a normal reaction?

Yes, that can happen at first. It’s an adrenaline reaction. If you add in too much B12, more than what your body can handle, your body will suddenly make a massive amount of adrenaline. And cortisol levels can surge. This can increase anxiety. I talk about this in the modules, and there is information in the Knowledge Base as well.

Because when you’re deficient in methylcobalamin, you have a reduced capacity to make adrenaline. So then when you rapidly increase methylation, your body can start making too much adrenaline. More than what your body is used to.

So you need to reduce your dosage and take breaks from the B12 to give your body time to adjust. You can also take more potassium and sometimes that can help as well.

You also need the MAO enzyme to inactivate excess adrenaline. And the MAO enzyme is dependent on Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide and Flavin Mononucleotide. So if you’re still deficient in the minerals and you still have low Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide and Flavin Mononucleotide, then you’re more likely to experience reactions when you add in B12. So that’s another thing to keep in mind. That’s why B12 comes later. You may need to reduce your B12 dosage or take a break from the B12 until a later date.
