So DLPA has been helping me, but I just started to take tryptophan in the evening to help with serotonin and sleep. I don't feel anything bad after taking it. It's maybe too early to tell if it helps, but I didn't notice any negative effects. Is it okay to keep taking the tryptophan or do you think it's useless?
I think it's mostly useless. So I wouldn't take it, personally, I would just stop it. If the DLPA is helping you then I would just keep taking that. The thing is, is most people don't have issues with serotonin. Most people produce too much serotonin and then they have trouble converting the serotonin into melatonin. So I can see that through the organic acid test. So tryptophan, it helps your body produce more serotonin, but if your body isn't converting it into melatonin, then taking more tryptophan is useless. So the only time tryptophan could help is, or 5-HTP for example, would be if someone has severe trauma. I've seen it help some people in those circumstances, but that's rare. And DLPA works even better. So yeah, if you're not really noticing anything from it, I would just stick to the DLPA.
I've seen tryptophan make people worse. I remember when I tried supplementing with it, I broke out. I had like a bunch of acne and digestive issues, which was confusing to me at the time, because this was many years ago. Because I was convinced, I've been told my whole life that I had low serotonin essentially. You go to the doctors, they say you need SSRIs. But it is nonsense. I'm not a fan of tryptophan.
