What are your thoughts on fish oil as supplements? What brand would you recommend?

I'm somewhat neutral regarding fish oil supplements. So I don't really have a problem with people taking them. I don't really think it's necessary either.

So, you're better off just eating wild salmon, like a few times a week instead. So you'll get enough omega-3s that way. You can also get some from grass fed beef. So that's how I get mine now. It's typically better to get omega-3s from food rather than supplementation because the oil in supplements can often go rancid. It's hard to find good fish oil supplements.

Now you can continue supplementing with the fish oil if you want. I just think you're better getting from food.

And so I wouldn't take very large doses of fish oil. You don't need to take more than gram per day. So I would, I would just take, just take small amounts every so often when you're not getting enough from food.

The only time I'd really recommend high dose EPA or DHA would be immediately after a brain injury. So if someone has a really bad concussion or traumatic brain injury, then it makes sense. But I don't think people should be supplementing with high doses of omega-3 all the time. It's just not, I just don't think it's the best approach, but you still need them.

So you still want to get them from food. And if you're not getting them from food, then supplement, but I wouldn't take large doses.

And I don't really have a recommended brand. I responded best to krill oil, so I would recommend that. I tried all sorts of different fish oil and krill oil supplements over the years and never really noticed a difference between them. I do remember taking NOW Foods Krill oil regularly though and it was decent.
