The supplements you recommend contain folic acid or methylfolate in high dose. I don't think it's smart to take folic acid with a MTHFR mutation as well as methylfolate in a high dose. What are your thoughts about this?

You’ve been misinformed and misguided. Plenty of naturopaths and supplement companies like to convince you that folic acid is a problem. And they do that so that they can sell you methyl folate supplements.

Folic acid itself is not an issue, despite what people in the MTHFR community says. Once you have adequate Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide and Flavin Mononucleotide, and the MTHFR enzyme starts working again, the body can convert folic acid into methyl folate. So once you fix methylation, folic acid is not a problem, and you won't have an issue taking folic acid.

Now saying that, too much methyl folate or folic acid earlier on in my program can be a problem though. So that’s why I typically don’t recommend folate until later in the program, after I see your urine test results.

So, people who are unable to tolerate folic acid or methyl folate are simply lacking the production of Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide and Flavin Mononucleotide.

Remember, it’s not the genetics that are the problem. It's the lack of Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide and Flavin Mononucleotide.
