What are your thoughts on leaky gut and gut health?

I think it's overrated and many people take the wrong approach to improve their gut health. I did so many different things to try to improve the health of my gut over years, and I kept getting sick again. I kept falling back into old patterns. I also had to continue following a restrictive diet. It didn't matter what I did for my gut health, it didn't improve. I would continue getting gut issues and other "leaky gut" symptoms such as brain fog after eating certain foods. Now I eat anything I want and my gut health and digestion is better than it's even better been. And that's possible because I follow the advice in this program and not because I followed some gut health protocol or leaky gut protocol. Those never got me anywhere. I think a lot of "leaky gut" discussion is often people and practitioners trying to sell you leaky gut supplements and leaky gut protocols.

Cellular B12 activity is absolutely critical for gut health and the integrity of the gut lining. B12 helps mature the gut and introduces a number of intestinal enzymes that protect the gut lining. And being deficient in B12 leads to very poor gut health. You need B12 to fix the poorly differentiated gut cells. Here's a study on B12 and gut health: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4260394/

You can get all sorts of bugs growing when your metabolism is out of whack because you end up excreting large amounts of carbon sources and small sugars, which they love to grow on.

Light, Vitamin D and melatonin are also critical for gut health and the microbiome, and I talk about these throughout the program modules.

And finally, one of the biggest influences on the gut microbiome is your enviornment. Living in a toxic environment can destroy your gut. So pay attention to the week 5 module.
